Wood Stove or Furnace?

This happened about a month ago. Chad and I have had a really hard time getting our wood stove going. The owner of the house we're renting wants us to use only presto logs. If you've ever used them you might know they are a huge pain to light. They are wax coated cylinders, hard to stack and hard to catch on fire. One morning it was in the single digits outside and I was determined to get this thing going. So I piled on four logs, a lot of lighter fluid, newspaper and about 3 starter log/matches. The below picture is what I got! I was so proud that I got it started until the house warmed up super fast and the fire alarm went off every 5 minutes for the next 45 minutes. I thought my arms would fall off from fanning it! We had the windows and doors open and it was still warm inside. We also had the heater turned off for the rest of the day and it stayed warm even in the back of the house. I learned my lesson about putting too much in a wood stove! I haven't started a fire in it since.
